How a high school is planning on getting their scoreboards for free

You have to admit, there are some pretty smart people at Romeo Community Schools in Michigan and Nancy Campbell, the Superintendent is leading the pack. Ms. Campbell is coordinating an all out effort to get new scoreboards for the school at no cost.

Romeo Community Schools has two rather old scoreboards in the gym at the high school. Circa 1959, to be exact. A schools scoreboard has a major affect on the overall morale of the school as well as the sports teams. An old fashioned scoreboard doesn’t motivate anyone and can actually lower attendance to games. Since there wasn’t any kind of budget allowed for scoreboard upgrade, it didn’t look to promising until Ms. Campbell came on the scene with the new idea.

Bo Jackson: A Rare Success in Both Football and Baseball

It is a rough road for any athlete to perfect a single sport and very few in the world have the option of becoming the best in two sports. Bo Jackson was one of these rare individuals. His careers in both baseball and football are legendary; and he accomplished it all with a sense of ease. Often described as one of the best athletes in the world, Bo set himself apart by accomplishing a high standard of excellence.

Vincent Edward Jackson (“Bo”) was born in 1962 in Bessemer, Alabama. He was number eight out of a family of ten children and often referred to as “the wild boar hog”. The reason for the reference was simply that he was always getting into unruly trouble. The name evolved to “Bo” and that was what he preferred to go by for the rest of his life. Bo was raised by a single mother, who worked multiple jobs to support her family and Bo was a constant distraction with the trouble he got into and caused. By the time Jackson was thirteen he was forced to change his bad behavior when he had to take on odd jobs to pay for damage he had caused. It was then that he decided to play baseball.

Katarina Witt: A vision of elegance on the ice

It is rare that you can find such a combination of talent in one person. Katarina Witt has shown that she can excel as an ice skater, business woman, athlete, and television celebrity. She was nicknamed ‘fire on the ice’ and the world had not been taken by storm with the love of a skater since Sonja Henie.

Katarina was born in East Berlin, Germany in 1965; the former communist East Germany. Her love of skating began early when, at the age of five, she was skating at the local sports arena. Her style was apparent and she went under the tutelage of Jutta Mueller, one of the world’s foremost skating instructors. Even though Katarina was a growing girl, she devoted her time to her skating. Between school and 4 hours a day on the ice, she didn’t have any time left to enjoy a family or friends. But hers was a labor of love.

Wilt Chamberlain: The icon of basketball

Philadelphia has produced a lot of great sports heroes. By far, one of the best and most well-known is Wilt Chamberlain. During his reign in basketball, “the Big Dipper’ became a name synonymous with excellence.

Chamberlain grew up in a racially mixed neighborhood, enjoying a relatively good childhood. His performance in basketball was supreme. He played for three years, scoring over 2,200 points at Philadelphia’s Overbrook High School. Wilt, however, had not stopped growing. He finally topped out at seven feet, one inch and everyone called him ‘the Big Dipper’ because he had to dip down to get through the doorways.

There isn’t a person in the country that doesn’t know the name of Lou Gehrig. A baseball icon that never let the stardom go to his head, he became one of America’s most famous players. His record breaking averages were only overshadowed by the ALS illness that he brought to the forefront of medical attention.

The 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles brought about many changes. Not only was the city of Los Angeles rearranging every aspect of their existence to be a host city, but there was an entire buzz of new athletes that were entering the fold. One of these athletes was Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

Born in 1962, Jackie was named after Jackie Kennedy. Little did her parents know that their daughter was destined for greatness. Jackie excelled in all kinds of sports, but in high school proved her worth by qualifying for the 1980 Olympic Trials in Long Jump competition. Albertus Magnus School Scoreboard to be dedicated to 9/11 Fallen Alumni

It is difficult to believe that ten years has passed since the horror of 9/11. Each and every American citizen felt helpless on that day. Loved ones were lost without apparent meaning or reason. Our dazed moments turned to the understanding that we had to do something in honor of those that were gone. Albertus Magnus High School, in Bardonia, NY lost five of their alumni members on that sad day, and they have decided to dedicate a new scoreboard in memory of those that had fallen. Five of the Albertus Magnus High School Falcons have been given a place of honor: Brian Novotny, Kevin Reilly, Michael McHugh, Michael Roberts and Sean Fegan.

Nadia Comaneci: The little gymnast the took the world by storm

The 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada brought a number of ‘firsts’ into athletics. One of the most surprising was little Nadia Comaneci, of Romania. The tiny powerhouse from the oppressed country entered the Olympics, becoming the first person to win with a perfect ten score and she won our hearts.

Born in 1961, Nadia became entranced by gymnastics by the young age of 6 years old. She was discovered and then trained by Bela Karolyi, the famed gymnastic coach. Karolyi and his wife were impressed with Nadia’s talent, but also her work ethic. Her own personal memories of that time included the fact that she continued to try, even though she fell a lot. She was only seven when she was entered into the Romanian National Junior Championship. While she finished in thirteenth place, it gave Nadia a taste of getting close to winning.

Are Electronic Scoreboards Replacing the Game?

Electronic ScoreboardsThere are some fans that seem to begrudge the newer technology, high quality scoreboards; indicating that they feel they are taking over the game. You probably know some of these people, they do not buy-into new tech very quickly (if at all) and seem to always be longing for ‘the good ol’ days’. If they are homesick for times gone by and were an avid fan of any sports team or concert event, they were also probably one of those people that were lucky enough to have seats in the first twenty rows. As one of those that often sat in the ‘nose bleed’ areas, I can tell you that the good ol’ days, were not that good. Thanks to the electronic scoreboards, all of us can now not only see a game or concert, but feel like we are actually participating in the moment.

Electronic Video Scoreboards on Steroids

Our demand for the best technology is insatiable, and sports fans seem to be on the top of that food chain. Big isn’t big enough, it now has to be gigantic, in full blazing HD color and in our face. Some of the nation’s largest scoreboards give a view of such excellence that the people in the nosebleed area think they are on the field. This is the era of electronic scoreboard-a-rama.

In 2009, the Dallas Stadium premiered their 160’ HD display. This goes beyond a scoreboard: weighing in at 1.2 million pounds, it requires a team of technology experts to operate it and the cost was twice that of the old stadium used by the Cowboys. The screen was an extravaganza of brilliance. The color was crisp and every fan was aglow with the view. There was only one problem with something so large – when an opposing team’s backup punter made a rather non-descript kick, the football bounced and ricocheted off the screen. It turns out the entire thing was too low.

Designing the best electronic scoreboard ads

There’s no denying that we are surrounded by advertising and marketing via more venues than ever before. In the old days, we were limited to television, radio and billboard. The technology stream has opened up the worlds of the internet websites, social media and now even our smartphones. With the entire marketing buzz, it is often a conundrum when you are trying to design creative and imaginative advertising for your electronic scoreboards.

The general public is fairly savvy when judging the difference between a good ad and a bad one. One example of the demand for good ads is the incredible popularity of Super Bowl ads. There are people that may not be football fans, but they will go online just to view that year’s ingenuity in advertising.

Electronic Scoreboard: Major item on every team’s wish list

Electronic ScoreboardEach new school year the Director of the Sports Department has a meeting to review the needs of the various teams. Everything is examined: from uniforms to the condition of the field or stadium. As each sports team regroups for the season, they will also add their input for what they feel is needed for the success of the year. On the top of the list is the electronic scoreboard.

It is now common place to attend any game and see a scoreboard. Every team, whether indoor, outdoor, home or away is very aware of the affect a scoreboard can have on the game. In today’s competitive arena, a sports team has to market themselves in the same branding of excellence as any other product. There are too many high quality media sources to offer alternatives to attendance and support, and the team needs a good electronic scoreboard to bring the fans in.

Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field: Once the 2nd oldest stadium in the country

The owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Barney Dreyfuss, had a dream in 1903 to create the most beautiful stadium in the country. He wanted to move the Pirates from the Exposition Park location to a seven acre area in Pittsburgh. The design he selected would blend with the other buildings in the district of Schenley Park. At the time, that location was a bit of a trolley ride (10 minutes) from downtown and the project became known as “Dreyfuss’ Folley”. The name didn’t last long mainly due to his design concept: a 3-tiered stadium of concrete and steel, setting precedence for a stadium design as the first one in the country.

Electronic Scoreboards: A YouTube hit and viral

It is hard to believe that in the last five years, there has been so much of a technology jump. As a world society, we have made a leap from the net as an information source, to an entertainment resource. The universe of electronic scoreboards has been one of the top changes, morphing from a method to view a team’s score to hit videos on such sites as YouTube.

Sports fans have always pushed technology to move forward. Some of the first computer graphic commercials were designed for the Super Bowl. When the fans got a taste of those, they simply wanted more. With the advent of the net as a social media forum and the commonality of smartphones, the evolution of electronic scoreboards has kept up with the demand. The scoreboards are at a level of technology that they will often contain streaming video, sponsorship announcements and replays. These are both sent to a direct feed to the net as well as personally filmed on video with our cameras.

The AstroDome: One of America’s Favorite Architectures

Any sports fan that ever heard the word “Astrodome” – knew exactly what and where it was. Commonly known as the Houston Astrodome, this was notably the first stadium build for multi-sports purpose. The grand opening in 1965, displayed the domed façade and it quickly became known as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. Judy Garland as well as the famed super group “The Supremes” were the highlight of performance in the opening night.

The design was based on a rain-out game attended by the former mayor of Houston. Inspired by the ancient Roman concept to offer a velaria to protect the viewers, he changed his project direction and began working on getting a domed stadium in place.

The changing face of electronic scoreboards: From manual to high techThere is an entire generation that has grown up not knowing what life was like without the internet, phone apps and high tech electronics. As a society, we have sped with lightning evolution into an age where everything can be viewed, communicated and shared, in an instant. In the U.S., the supply and demand channel for high tech has been backed by the hungry fans of our sports teams. War Memorial Stadium: Ol’ Rockpile of Buffalo

War Memorial Stadium: Ol' Rockpile of Buffalo

Buffalo New York has had a tenuous reputation, but there is something about the people that live there, that gives the residents resilience like no other. They suffer horrendous winters and lovely light summers; a hard working class of people that are some of the most loyal fans; even when their beloved Buffalo Bills aren’t winning. They don’t seem to care, because they stand firmly behind their team.

As early as 1937, a stadium was built for a max capacity of around 33,000 fans. The original name was Roesch Memorial Stadium, later changed to Grover Cleveland Stadium (in honor of the renowned President and former Buffalo resident) and then Civic Stadium. In 1960 the name was finalized as War Memorial Stadium. One of the smallest venues for football, the people of the area supported the many renovations to give it a final capacity of 46,500.

Portable electronic scoreboards: Taking the scores to your fans

Hometown teams that don’t have a good field know all too well the uphill battle of getting and maintaining their fan following. The success of any team relies completely on the fans and the sponsors. Every team needs to know they are supported and the easiest way to get those fans is to have a portable electronic scoreboard at every game.

The old portable scoreboards were bulky, unpredictable and difficult to set up at an away game. The improvement in technology has offered a team the chance to have a higher tech portable scoreboard with some of the bells and whistles that you might only find at the stadiums. Gone are the days of the massive electric requirements. The wireless age now offers excellence of quality without so many plugs. Audio special effects can now be found on the portable scoreboards as MP3 plug ins can create a music sensation that spurs both fans and team members alike. Bright, sharp LED displays have the option of color change, so that you can match the team colors and entice more team spirit at the game.

Cleveland Stadium: Home of the Dawg Pound

Cleveland Stadium: Home of the Dawg Pound

The original idea of Cleveland Stadium was a combined effort of Cleveland City government officials, real estate investors and Cleveland Indian team officials. The purpose was to give the team a professional and sharp venue to play while increasing revenue for the Cleveland Ohio downtown area. The additional hopes in 1930 were that it would attract the Summer Olympics games. This hope was dashed when Los Angeles received the coveted award for the games.

When construction started on Cleveland Stadium, the media cruelly dubbed the venue “The Mistake by the Lake”. When it was completed, the stadium hosted the Cleveland Indians as well as the National Boxing Associated World Heavyweight Championship. Seating capacity for baseball and football varied, but with an average of around 80,000.

Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium: The Launching Pad

The 1960’s was a time of progress in our country. Large cars, booming business and the introduction of rock and roll brought about many changes. Atlanta Georgia was a city that needed to move forward with the times. The decision in 1964 for the then, non-identified Major League Baseball organization to offer a verbal commitment to Atlanta created the grounds to build a stadium. In 1965 the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was opened, having taken only 50 weeks to construct.

Miami Orange Bowl: A moment in history

Miami Orange Bowl: A moment in history

In 1936 the City of Miami Public Works Department made a decision to build a stadium that would be a highlight to Miami. Construction was finished and in 1937 the football team, then named the Miami Hurricanes, played their first game. Since Roddy Burdine was a pioneer of the Miami area, the first name given to the stadium was Burdine Stadium. The stadium was renamed in 1959 to accommodate the college football game of the Orange Bowl.

The popularity of the stadium encouraged additional enhancements, so that in the 40’s and 50’s seating was added to create a max capacity of over 80,000. This led to the ability of a pro football team game and The Miami Dolphins played their first game at the Orange Bowl in 1966. The Orange Bowl became a centerpiece of history when the first televised prime time college game was played.

Busch Stadium: From Old to New

Busch Stadium was one of the most attractive stadiums in baseball. Originally constructed as a multi purpose venue, it was the talk of St Louis. Featuring the famous ‘Crown of the Arches’ to compliment the St Louis ‘Gateway Arch’, the stadium became best known as the pride of The Cardinals. The original name that it was given was Civic Center Busch Memorial Stadium, however in 1982 they decided to change the name to it’s now well known ‘Busch Stadium’. The venue was named after the famous family of the team’s ownership, the Anheuser-Busch, Busch Family.

The Spectrum: Heart and Soul of Philadelphia

Anyone that lived in Philadelphia from the late 60’s until the 2,000’s, knew and loved ‘The Spectrum’. While it was called by many other names, including: The Wachovia Spectrum, CoreStates Spectrum, and First Union Spectrum, it was and always will be known as simply ‘The Spectrum’ by the locals.

Oddly named in 1967 when it opened, the letters are actually an acronym: ‘SP’ represents ‘sports’ and has also been referred to as ‘South Philadelphia. The ‘E’ for ‘entertainment,’ as it was planned to host a variety of venues. The ‘C’ for the many ‘circuses,’ that would be there. The ‘T’ for all of the ‘theatricals,’ plays, drama and movie backdrops. The ‘R’ for ‘recreation,’ which covered a lot of topics. And ‘UM’, well they decided that would stand for: ‘um, what a nice building!”.

Tiger Stadium: the pride of Detroit

Tiger Stadium: the pride of Detroit

Many people may not know that the famous Tiger Stadium in Detroit started out in 1895 as just a simple ballpark. George Vanderbeck was the then owner of the Detroit Tigers, and built the stadium and called it Bennett Park. It had wooden grandstands and a peaked roof of wood in the outfield with the infield surrounded by bleachers. Ropes were used in some locations to mark off the outfield.

Many changes were made to ‘The Corner’, as it was lovingly coined. From 1911 to 1938 various owners changed, added and enhanced to encourage fans to attend. In 1961, John Fetzer decided to rename the location to Tiger Stadium. It seemed the name brought good luck because from 1968 and 1984, they held the seasons of the World Series championship. The historic feel of the stadium earned the love of the local Detroit fans; and that says a lot, because Detroit fans are some of the most devoted in the country. Roger Maris hit his very first homerun at the stadium.

If you lived in Philadelphia during the 60’s and 70’s you had to be a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. This isn’t a choice or an option, it’s a requirement. If you attended any of the games (and everyone did) then you would have found yourself at the Philadelphia Veterans Stadium, known as “The Vet” by the locals. Braves Field: Boston’s unsung hero of baseball

Braves Field: Boston's unsung hero of baseball

From 1915 through 1952 the Braves Field was known for hosting the then Boston Braves of the National League franchise. The original owners made a little known name change to the team, calling it the Boston Bees, and the field picked up the name of “The Bee Hive”.

The intended purpose of the field was to offer the ability to have more inside home runs. So, a stadium was constructed in the then ‘outskirt area’ of Boston. Sadly, the fans had to sit in stand areas that were literally outside of the foul marked areas. There were also strong breezes that entered into the field. Fences that were originally 400 feet away were often relocated based on the interests of the owners. This on again, off again relocation was much to the chagrin of both fans and players alike. It would be ten years before someone hit a home run to go up and over the outer wall. Other than that, it would always be referred to as a “pitchers park”.

The Pontiac Silverdome, loved as just ‘The Dome’

The Pontiac Silverdome, loved as just The Dome

The original Silverdome graced the skyline of Pontiac Michigan from 1975 through 2006. Home of the Detroit Lions the Michigan Panthers, the Detroit Pistons, the Motor City Bowl and the Cherry Bowl, it was also host to the football state finals of the MHSAA; 1976-2004 and the 19984 FIFA World Cup, four of the first round games.
The seating capacity topped over 93,600 when Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass in 1987.

This mega stadium was the finalized concept of C. Don Davidson, a local resident, athlete. Davidson’s dream was to bring a new facelift to the then downtrodden city of Pontiac. After he met with the Detroit Lions owner and presented an initial plan, the idea of the stadium became a reality.

Seattle's Best: The Kingdome

The King County Multipurpose Domed Stadium might not be a name that you are familiar with, but you will know simply The Kingdome. Opening in 1976, the Kingdome was actually visualized as far back as 1959. The existing stadiums in Seattle were simply not large enough to support any of the major leagues. The citizens of King County finally voted in approval for the Kingdome in 1968 and previewed around 100 different sites in the King County and Seattle areas for the project. Without a confirmed major league franchise, the stadium broke ground on King Street. It wasn’t until 1974 when the new stadium was awarded the NFL franchise of what would eventually be the Seattle Seahawks.

4 Reasons Why Barcelona are Untouchable

In this soccer scoreboards feature I will explain why Barcelona is currently the best soccer team and what has made them practically unplayable over the last 3 seasons. They are possibly the best team ever, so how do they do it?!

Anyone who loves soccer probably wishes that their team played like Barcelona (unless the team he or she supports IS Barcelona). But is it possible for other teams to play like Barcelona and repeat what they pull off on the field? With the soccer scoreboards showing 3-1 to Barcelona against Manchester United in the final of 2011, their successful run continued. But if they are so successful, then why don’t other teams just copy them?

The 4 Soccer Players that Need to Prove Themselves in the 2011-2012 Season

The 4 Soccer Players that Need to Prove Themselves in the 2011-2012 Season

This season there were many players with great talent who disappointed, and in this soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the worst offenders. Here are 4 players that really need to prove their worth in the next season.

Kaka
Unfortunately, Kaka got injured just when he was in the prime of his career and as a result he lost his form. His form was great when he was with AC Milan but since he has been traded to Real Madrid, something is not right with him, and he has not played up to his potential or been able to gel with the Real Madrid players. In order to become a regular member of the starting team and to match up to Ronaldo he has to be nothing less than the best!

Half Way Through the MLB Season – Who Will Win the MVP Award?

Half Way Through the MLB Season - Who Will Win the MVP Award

The Major League Baseball season is almost half way through, and the race for the MVP award has already started. It is not a given that the MVP award winner has to be from a successful team, because it is purely an individual award which recognizes a player’s outstanding and performance throughout the season. In this baseball scoreboards feature, I have selected the players who have stood out so far, no matter who they play for. These are the ones whom, in my view, have the best chance of winning the MVP award this year!

5. Mark Teixeira
Mark Teixeira was regarded as one of the slowest starters in the game, however things have changed. He is having an incredible season, is leading in home runs and the baseball scoreboards show that he is on his way to scoring 50 home runs for the first time ever in his career. Teixeira has a history of producing exhilarating performances in the second half of the season, and if this happens this season then he will surely be a strong contender for the MVP.

There is no doubt that these players are phenomenally talented enough and deserve to reach the pinnacles of the sport, and in this basketball scoreboards feature, I have selected four players who, despite winning an MVP, have not won a Championship, yet truly deserve it.

The 5 Best Players in MLB in Terms of Value

The 5 Best Players In Mlb In Terms Of Value

In this baseball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at MLB, and asked, which players are offering the best value for money for their teams? All of the players below have been having a great season with their respective teams, and whilst they are (like everyone in MLB!) paid large sums for their efforts, their salaries aren’t as sky high as many of the other players in the league, yet their performances this season are more than justifying what they receive.

5. David DeJesus
The Oakland Athletics have made a good deal by acquiring Dejesus for $6 million. He has been scoring at an average of .232. Though his performances have been good it hasn’t helped the team this season – they continue to struggle.

The 5 Best Strikers in World Soccer Today

The 5 Best Strikers In World Soccer Today

Strikers are the players who get the most love from the fans, but also the ones who can quickly fall from their pedestal if they don’t keep up their scoring record. In this soccer scoreboards feature, I have selected the 5 best and most loved strikers in the world today, who are clearly not going to be knocked of their pedestal anytime soon. Do you agree with my selection?!

5. David Villa
The Spanish star has had an incredible first season with Barcelona. His Champions League goal against Manchester United really summed it up. He was also a part of Spain’s winning squad and scored in every game of the World Cup except the final. He has been an outstanding player and every Barca fan is looking forward to his second season with the best club team in soccer.

4 MLB Superstars Who Never Remained the Same After Injury

4 MLB Superstars Who Never Remained the Same After Injury

Almost every player gets injured at some point during their career, but the most hungry players fight the injury, work super hard, and get back into the team with a bang! On the other hand, there are players who either don’t have the fight, or have suffered from a truly debilitating injury, are they unable to gain their previous form after their comeback. In this baseball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at 4 players who were brilliant prior to getting injured, but who have lost their momentum after an injury. Sad but true.

The 4 Best Midfielders in World Soccer

The 4 Best Midfielders in World Soccer

Midfielders are arguably the single most important members of a team and a huge responsibility rests on their shoulders to track back and defend, as well as to get forward and attack. These are the players who chalk up 10 to 12 kilometers per match, and the ones who need to have the greatest stamina, the ability to shoot, tackle, and dictate the pace of the game. They need to have great footballing intelligence, so as to create opportunities for the strikers with defense splitting passes. All in all, the midfielder role is the most technical, and the most challenging role in soccer.

The Ten Highest Paid Head Coaches in the NFL (Part II)

The Ten Highest Paid Head Coaches In the NFL (part II)

I looked at four of the top ten highest paid coaches in the NFL in part 1 of this article, and in this football scoreboards feature, I will continue from where I left off, and take a look at the six highest paid coaches of them all!

6. Ken Whisenhunt
The guy who led the Arizons Cardinals to their first Super Bowl victory in the history of the franchise is Ken Whisenhunt. He has been with the Cardinals since 2007 and apart from the team’s fantastic Super Bowl victory the Cardinals have also won the division title twice under his helm. Ken Whisenhunt earns $5.75 million and has been outstanding throughout his tenure with the Cardinals, which is why he gladly offered an extension to his contract in 2010. Who could have known that the 2010 season would turn out so badly terrible one?!

The Top 10 Worthless Players in the NBA

The Top 10 Worthless Players In the NBA

Whilst the NBA, like any other commercialized sport, has its fair share of super talented and world renowned players, it also has a number of players in its ranks who clearly shouldn’t be there. In this basketball feature, I have selected the ten NBA players who I consider to be the biggest good-for-things in the league at the moment.

10. Eric Dampier
Eric Dampier has had an average season in the league which is as good as he can hope for. He currently plays for the Miami Heat and rarely gets a look in on the team. Why? Take a look at his stats and you will see why!.

The Ten Highest Paid Head Coaches In the NFL (part I)

We are always reading (and expressing our disapproval) about the size of player contracts, but rarely do we hear about the contracts coaches sign with their franchises. The size of a contract depends on a number of factors such as the historical success rate of the coach, how much other coaches are earning, how much cash to splash the club has, and so on. In this football scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the ten richest head coaches in the NFL. As you will see, some of them have brought great things to their team, and deserve the rich rewards that they get, whilst others are just expensive burdens who have achieved nothing!

The Top 5 Most Undeserving MLB MVPs Ever

The Top 5 Most Undeserving MLB MVPs Ever

There are times when a player truly deserves a MVP award but for one reason or another does not get it (Matt Holliday in 2007 anyone?!). On the other hand, there are times when a player (according to the fans consensus) does not deserve a MVP award but somehow gets it anyway. In this baseball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the players who deserved the biggest award in baseball least of all..

5. Maury Wills
Maury Wills received the MVP award in 1962 for no reason. Yes, his statistics showed 104 stolen bases but this alone was surely not sufficient to get an MVP award. MVPs are selected through voting and this statistic clearly influenced the voters as they thought that he was the best of that year. In that particular season a truly deserving candidate for the MVP was Millie Ways. Ways was way ahead of Wills according to the statistics. He was leading the league in home runs as well as in wins above replacement (WAR). Other statistics like walks, runs, batting average etc also indicated that Wills should have been the MVP for 1962.

The Top 5 Free Kick Specialists in the History of Soccer

The Top 5 Free Kick Specialists In the History of Soccer

In this soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the top 5 free kick specialists the soccer world has ever seen. Having a free kick specialist in the team gives it a great advantage, and most teams have at least one free kick specialist in their ranks. Here are my top five favorite free kick specialists to have ever played.

5. Ronaldinho
The Brazilian has an amazing ability to hit a free kick. The England fans know this better than anyone and to this day they can’t forget Ronaldinho’s 35 yard free kick in the 2002 World Cup as a result of which England lost and were sent home. Other than this one there are many instances when Ronaldinho won matches for Brazil with his free kicks and left the opposing goalkeeper looking foolish with the amazing spin he could get on the ball!

The 5 Highest Paid NBA Players In 2011

As ever, the NBA was exciting and full of surprises this season. Somewhat unexpectedly, the Dallas Mavericks lifted the trophy this year, in a victory that was applauded by everyone across the country, outside of Miami that is!

Last season there were some players who were given unexpectedly big contracts that they did not deserve at all. On the other hand there were players who truly deserved the contract they got and completely justified their fat pay check. In this basketball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the five NBA athletes who earned the most this season and asked the question, did they deserve it?

There are a few players in Major League Baseball who have hit the big 40. 5 NBA Duos That Should Have Played Together Longer

5 NBA Duos That Should Have Played Together Longer

There are certain players who if they had played for their team for a longer time together they would have undoubtedly made a deadly and winning combination. In this basketball scoreboards feature, I have selected the 5 duos who should have played together for much longer than they actually did, and whose partnership sadly came to an end before it reached the great heights that it was otherwise destined for.

5. Jerry Stackhouse and Grant Hill
The Detroit Pistons’ former power house Hill and Stackhouse played together for three seasons only. Though they were college rivals, they left their rivalry behind and played as a unit for the Pistons. Both the players were in their prime when they played together which is why people enjoyed watching them so much.

The 5 Worst NFL Quarterbacks Ever

The 5 Worst NFL Quarterbacks Ever

Quarterbacks undoubtedly hold the most important position in football. But as important as their role is, some teams have put some really bad quarterbacks on the field! Not surprisingly, this has led to the downfall of the team. In honor of these anti-greats of the game, in this football scoreboards feature I have taken a look at who I consider to be the 5 worst quarterbacks to have ever set foot on an NFL field.

5. Joey Harrington
Sarcastically nicknamed as Joey Sunshine for being too optimistic, Harrington spent most of his career with the Detroit Lions. The Lions drafted him in 2002 and he remained with the team till 2005. Factors like mismanagement, poor offensive line protection and lack of skills contributed to his unsuccessful career. He also played for the Miami Dolphins, the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints, but he remained unsuccessful with every team he played.

The NBA Champs – Victory for the Dallas Mavericks Means a Victory for Basketball!

In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the Mavericks recent victory in the NBA champs.

The Dallas Mavericks proved to be the best team in the NBA this season. Many people thought that they were lacking in star players, but they showed us that stars or not, team work and passion can help win anything – even an NBA title! The Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat in a six game series to grab the title, outplaying the Heat in almost every department.

5 Destructive MLB Injuries in 2011

5 Destructive MLB Injuries In 2011

Injuries are always damaging for the teams. Whenever any player gets injures it is not just the individual but the team who suffers. When a player is particularly important for the team, and if the team relies on him too much, then a sudden injury or two can devastate a team’s season. In a baseball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at five key players in MLB who got injured this year.

5. Rafael Furcal
The injury prone player has got himself into trouble again. He broke his left hand thumb while head sliding in the third base in April and hasn’t returned to the field till now. He is a key player for the Dodgers’ offense and the team needs him back badly! The team is already lagging behind in its division and without the influential Furcal it could be a long and painful season for the fans!

The 5 Best NFL Head Coaches

The 5 Best NFL Head Coaches

Top level coaches have the craziest job of them all. They work day in day out with their team in the knowledge that one run of bad results and they could be sent packing and their career could be over. They are the people who can lift up the team’s spirits in bad situations and who can make a weak team competitive by getting the best out of the players at their disposal. In this football scoreboards article, I have taken a look at the 5 coaches in the NFL today who I consider to be the best in their trade.

5. Sean Payton
The New Orleans Saints were struggling quite badly when Sean Payton was signed as the coach of the team. The fans were relieved when they got this news because Payton came with a great reputation. Prior to signing Payton as the head coach, the football scoreboards showed that the New Orleans had made it to the playoffs just five times in 39 years and were in bad shape. Payton came in as the life saver for New Orleans. Under his coaching, the team has made it to the playoffs three out of five times and have also won the Super Bowl once.

The 4 Most Regretful First Round MLB Picks

The 4 Most Regretful First Round MLB Picks

Everyone looks forward to the drafts each season. They brings teams and fans new talented players, as well as new talented flops-to-be. This very much depends on how well the team scouts understand a player and foresee any possible weaknesses. In this baseball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at 4 players who I consider are good for nothing and who have become a liability for the club.

Jeremy Sowers
The Cleveland Indians used their sixth pick to draft Jeremy Sowers who was playing extra ordinarily well and was putting up great numbers before he was drafted. Sowers went on to have an amazing rookie season. Unfortunately, his form started to decline in his sophomore season, and this happened to such a great extent that he never recovered from it and lost his form completely. He was soon demoted to Buffalo, and it just kept going downhill from there.

5 Players in NBA history who Lack Athleticism

5 Players In NBA History Who Lack Athleticism

The NBA has changed a lot in the modern era. In the early days it didn’t matter if a player was athletic or not, he just had to have a good height and the ability to score. However, nowadays the players have to possess incredible athleticism in order to survive in the league. It’s just too tough out there to be a softy! In this basketball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at five NBA players who have been particularly criticized for their lack of athleticism.

5. Gheorge Mureson
The huge man in the league was a great player of his time. Mureson had an amazing career especially in terms of blocking shots, but he was certainly not the most athletic. Luckily, he played in an era where athleticism was not one of the essentials of a basketball player or else it is doubtful that he would have prospered for so long in the game. His footwork was average but he lacked the stamina that was needed during a match.

The Top 5 Overpriced Players in the NFL Today

The Top 5 Overpriced Players In the NFL Today

Let’s face it, there are a large number of players in NFL who got hefty contracts but do not deliver the performances to justify the sky high sums that they are paid. Some of these players are simply a waste of the team’s money and the fans’ patience! In this football scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at who, in my opinion, are the 5 most overpriced players currently in the NFL.

5. Kareem Jackson
Kareem Jackson should have played much better than he did last season. It was his rookie year and he had the best chance to prove himself and take advantage of the opportunity given to him by the Houston Texas. He signed a contract with the Texans worth $10 million, and great things were expected of him, but he did very little enough to justify the amount of the contract.

5. The return of Rajon Rondo
The Celtics guard, Rajon Rondo dislocated his elbow in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference against the Miami Heat. His injury was a great loss to the team and the fans were shocked, but his return later in the same game was astonishing! MLB’s 5 Most Selfish Players

MLB’s 5 Most Selfish Players

It seems to be a rule that almost every MLB team has player who thinks only about himself and not of the team as a collective unit. It also seems like more and more of these personalities are appearing in MLB. In a baseball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the 5 players who I consider to be the 5 most selfish players of MLB.

5. Carlos Zambrano
Carlos Zambrano plays for the Chicago Cubs and is known for his short temper in Major League Baseball. More often than it seems like all he is interested in is himself and his own performance. He does not react when the team performs well but he certainly does when something goes wrong with him, and then he is ready to start a battle. He has a huge list of fights in the MLB, and a lot of players have fallen prey to his temper! (Unfortunately for them – he is 6′ 5″ and 260 pounds!)

Top 4 Broadcasters in MLB History

Top 4 Broadcasters In Mlb History

Broadcasters or announcers are an important part of every baseball game. They can either make your baseball experience all the more enjoyable and exhilarating, or they can make the same experience an extremely painful ordeal. In this baseball scoreboards article I have taken a look at the top broadcasters or announcers in MLB, whose spoken words can make baseball fans question their strongest perceptions.

1.Vin Scully – Vin Scully is a living legend when it comes to MLB broadcasting and announcing. In the specialized profession of baseball announcing, he is the benchmark in the industry. If a young broadcaster is seeking a career out of the profession, then he has to try and be as good as Vin Scully. Scully started his broadcasting career in 1950 (and is still going strong) with the Dodgers, when they were still called the Brooklyn Dodgers. When he is doing a play-by-play for any game, he doesn’t need any color commentator to assist him in filling in between plays. He was NBC’s lead baseball announcer from 1983 – 1989, and the Hall of Fame awarded him the Ford Frick award in 1982.

7 – 15 games, Carmelo Anthony – With the basketball scoreboards showing just 2 minutes left in the game, played out between the Knicks and the Nuggets at Madison Square Garden, a heated argument started when Mardy Collins, in an attempt to avoid J.R.Smith, fouled by grabbing him by his neck. In the first part of this article, I wrote about 3 of the longest suspensions in NBA ever given for a non-drug incident. In this basketball scoreboards feature, I will continue from where I left off in the last article, and talk about 3 more incidents that led to long suspensions.

4 – 30 games, Stephen Jackson – Stephen Jackson was “awarded” a 30 games suspension in 2004 when he and Ron Artest zoomed into the crowd during a game and randomly started throwing punches at fans. He was among the nine players who received a suspension in the commonly known ‘Palace Brawl’. Immediately after the incident, the players who were involved were handed an indefinite ban by the NBA, however the next day this decision was changed and the players were given their respective finite bans. Due to this ugly fight between the players and the fans, the game was stopped with the basketball scoreboards showing that there was just 45.9 seconds remaining in the game.

5 of the Most Hated Teams in the NFL Today

5 of the Most Hated Teams in the NFL Today

Every team in the NFL has its own fervent fan following, which is a great thing, but this is also reflected in the fact that fans can just as fervently hate other teams. This hatred can sprout from the actions of one of the teams’ players, or the teams’ collective personality, or simply out of envy. In this “football scoreboards” article, I will take a look at today’s top 5 most hated NFL teams and why they are disliked so much.

5 – Pittsburg Steelers – in the case of the Steelers, the hatred for the team arises from the fact that they are led by one of the most conscientiously corrupt and hated men in the NFL. Ben Roethlisberger has escaped 3 rape charges, and the fans are savvy enough to know that no man can have 3 rape allegations (even unproven!) against his name without him being a philanderer and a womanizer. The other contributor to the Steelers’ hatred is the fans’ envy; they have taken the Lombardi 6 times, so naturally fans of other teams envy them for their success.

The Worse 4 Broadcasters in MLB History

The Worse 4 Broadcasters In Mlb History

Last week’s “baseball scoreboards” article listed the top 4 broadcasters in MLB history, and in this week’s baseball scoreboards feature, I will take a look at the bottom 4 most annoying broadcasters ever. These are the broadcasters who should not ever have been handed a mic during a baseball game, and the ones who make is think, if they got that dream job, why can’t I?!

4 – Tim McCarver – one has to wonder how a 3-time Emmy Award winner for best sports event analyst ended up on this side of the list? The answer might lie in the fact that McCarver is not a specialist baseball commentator or announcer. Over the span of his broadcasting career, he has covered everything from being a color commentator for MLB to being the announcer for the freestyle skiing event at the Winter Olympics in 1988. He has had stints as a game caller for the Phillies, Mets, Yankees and Giants. His nature to grossly over analyze things during a game is the primary reason he is on this list. Norman Chad criticized McCarver best in a Sport Illustrated issue “when you ask him the time, he will tell you how a watch works.”

The Unsung Heroes of the English Premier League of the 2010-2011 Season

The Unsung Heroes of the English Premier League of the 2010-2011 SeasonAt the start of the English Premier League this season, everybody expected players like Rooney, Fabregas, Drogba and the all other big names to be the big performers over the season, however nobody expected the players (in this article) to make such an impact this season. In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have looked at the top four unsung heroes of the 2010-2011season.

Maxi Rodriguez
This Argentine player has played a BIG role in Liverpool’s success this season. He has been amazing for large parts of it and a big reason for their second half (of the year) recovery. He has scored a hatrick twice this season and has scored seven goals in just the last three games. He wasn’t in form at the start and he had a very mediocre first few weeks, but now he is THE man who should be feared in the Liverpool team because he fast is on his way to becoming the STAR of the team.

Last week, in a baseball scoreboards feature, we covered the “Pine Tar” and the “Black Sox” incidents. Continuing from where we left off, let us take a look at the next 2 most infamous scandalous incidents in MLB history.

3. The Pete Rose Gambling Incident – it seems like MLB is more susceptible to gambling than other professional sports, or it may be that they are just not that well versed in hiding their illicit activities. The (baseball scoreboards) Pete Rose gambling incident is not so much an incident as a saga of denials and accusations that spans almost 15 years. 5 Players Who Are Irreplaceable in the NFL Today

5 Players Who Are Irreplaceable In the Nfl Today

The 2011 NFL draft is now in the books, the teams have drafted the players with the most potential in a step towards replacing the old team players who have long since lost their zing! However, at the same time there are players who are at their prime and as of yet have no danger of being replaced because they are just too valuable for the teams. In this football scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the top 5 players who aren’t going anywhere soon.

5- San Francisco 49ers, LB Patrick Willis – ever since he was drafted by the 49ers in 2007, he has cemented his place in the team as an irreplaceable part of the defense. Besides having the talent and ability, he has the traits essential for mustering a solid defense. He is a methodical and aggressive player; exactly the mix a team seeks in a player to lead a strong defense. The football scoreboards show that in his 4 years with the 49ers, he has managed 595 tackles.

4 of the Most Infamous Scandalous Incidents in MLB History (Part 1)

4 of the Most Infamous Scandalous Incidents In Mlb History (part 1)

No professional sport is really complete without the occasional scandal; and baseball, of course, is no different from the rest. Over the years there have been quite a few scandals in the MLB. However, there are 4 scandals that are perhaps the most infamous of all in MLB history, and in the baseball scoreboards article, I have taken a look at 2 of the 4 first.

1 – The Pine Tar Scandal – ‘twas July 24th, 1983 when it looked like the Yankees had the Royal’s on their knees in the 9th innings, with the baseball scoreboards showing 2 outs and a runner only on the first. When George Brett came to the pitch, much to the Royal’s delight and the Yankees’ misfortune, he hit a home run, giving the Royals a one run lead. Of course this did not sit well with the Yankees, and in a desperate attempt to win the game, Billy Martin, the Yankees manager, ran up to the umpire (before Brett even had a chance to complete his home run) and spoke to him. After what looked like a heated debate, the umpire laid Brett’s bat on the home plate and soon after declared Brett as out. Obviously infuriated, Brett went up to the umpire and Billy Martin, inquired about the incident and had to be physically restrained from slugging the umpire.

NFL Draft: The Most Disappointing Picks for Every Team in the Last Decade (Part 4)

Nfl Draft: the Most Disappointing Picks for Every Team In the Last Decade (part 4)

Picking from where we left off in the previous article of this football scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the most disappointing draft picks for the remaining teams in the NFL from the last decade.

27. Bobby Carpenter, LB: Dallas Cowboys – he was the 18th pick in the 2006 draft. In the 4 years (and 58 games) he played for the Cowboys, he never managed a single forced fumble from the opposition nor an interception.

28. Alex Smith, QB: San Francisco 49ers – he was the 1st pick in the 2005 draft. This time around, it was the player who was unlucky to be drafted by a struggling team. Smith is not without talent; however, there have been instances where he hasn’t helped himself either. He has 14 touch downs, 10 interceptions, 2,370 yards and a QB rating of 82.1 to his name.

NFL Draft: Most Disappointing Picks for Every Team in the Last Decade (Part 3)

Nfl Draft: Most Disappointing Picks for Every Team In the Last Decade (part 3)

Continuing with this football scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the next 10 most disappointing draft picks for teams in the NFL.

18. Matt Leinart, QB: Arizona Cardinals – he was the 10th pick in the 2006 draft. In the 4 seasons with the Cardinals, Leinart managed a career start record of 7-10, with the football scoreboards showing 14 touch downs, 20 interceptions and 3,893 yards. In 2010, he was acquired by the Houston Texans, for whom he has yet to play a game.

19. T.J Duckett, RB: Atlanta Falcons – he was the 18th pick in the 2002 draft. Even though Duckett has competent career stats, as fate would have it, he wasn’t able to perform well for the Falcons.

NFL Draft: The Most Disappointing Picks for Every Team in the Last Decade (Part 2)

Nfl Draft: the Most Disappointing Picks for Every Team In the Last Decade (part 2)

Yesterday, I analyzed the most disappointing draft picks for 9 of the 32 teams in the NFL. Today, in a continuation of this football scoreboards feature, I will take a look at the next 7 teams.

10. Ted Ginn Jr., WR: Miami Dolphins – he was the 9th pick in the 2007 NFL draft. The Miami Dolphins made a much criticized decision when they selected Ted Ginn over Brady Quinn. However, even if they had gone with Quinn, he too would be on this list. He may have been a competent return man (the football scoreboards showed 3 TDs for the Dolphins), but he was never a competent receiver.

NFL Draft 2011: Day 1, 2 and 3 Round Up (Part 2)

Nfl Draft 2011: Day 1, 2 and 3 Round Up

The 32 teams have cast their dice, signaling the all-too-anticipated NFL Draft 2011 as officially complete. 3 days and 7 rounds are a lot to process, therefore, in this football scoreboards feature, I have taken look at what the teams were looking for on D-Day and what they got.

Atlanta Falcons – the team was in need of a WR, DE and a good pass rusher. In an aggressive move, they traded away 5 picks to the Browns in an effort to get their hands on WR Julio Jones. Next, the Falcons drafted OLB Akeem Dent; however, they could’ve picked a far more able draft. Later, they drafted Cliff Mathews at DE.

NFL Draft 2011: Days 1, 2 and 3 Round Up (part 1)

Nfl Draft 2011: Days 1, 2 and 3 Round Up (part 1)

In this football scoreboards article, I have taken a look at who the rest of the NFL teams drafted during the 3 days to bring in new talent and bolster their teams.

Jacksonville Jaguars – the Jaguars came into D-Day looking to bolster their QB, safety, DE and LB positions. They filled in their QB spot with Blaine Gabbart, who was in the top 3 of the most accurate QBs coming into the NFL Draft 2011. Next, they drafted OG William Rackley, WR Cecil Shorts, S Christopher Prosinski and CB Roderick Issac.

The Spurs Defeat the Grizzlies in Game Five

The Spurs Defeat the Grizzlies In Game Five

In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have reviewed the recent victory for the Spurs over the Grizzlies.

The Antonio Spurs shocked everyone by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies in the best of seven play-offs. The Grizzlies were up 3-1 in the series and it was a do or die situation for the Spurs. They had to win the match in order to stay alive in the series, and they showed incredible resilience to get through it in the last few minutes.

The Top 5 MLB Teams That Grew Most in Value in 2010

The Top 5 Mlb Teams That Grew Most In Value In 2010

Ever since the 2008 banking meltdown, MLB has been facing a major debt crisis spearheaded by the Mets and the Dodgers. Between the Mets’ investment at Bernard Madoff’s ponzi scheme and the McCourts (of the Dodgers) using the team’s assets as collateral to rack up an unbelievable $459 million of debt, Bud Selig has had to come up with emergency loans quite similar to that of the banking industry’s bail-out package. However, not all of the MLB teams are in the hands of such incompetent owners, which, despite the baseball scoreboards showing a general decline in attendance figures, 28 of the 32 teams witnessed a gain in value in 2010. In this baseball scoreboards feature, I have listed the top 5 teams that gained most value last year.

Another Spanish Star Rises – David de Gea

Spanish Star David De Gea

In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have looked at the career (so far!) of one of the brightest new talents in Spanish soccer: David de Gea.

The success of Spain in the Euro Cup and the World Cup has bought the Spanish football players into the limelight, and they truly deserve it. Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol, Villa and Casillas are the top Spanish players and have all been on top form this season. Casillas played a major role in the victory of Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey title. Spain has produced many great players and the rise this season of another Spanish star David de Gea comes as no surprise.

NFL Combine Position Drills: Defensive Back

NFL Combine Position Drills

In a football scoreboards feature, I have continued my review of the combine drill. The final group of athletes to work out every year at the combine is the defensive backs. Out of all the drills for defensive backs, the favorite of the coaches at the combine is the “speed turn” drill.

What Happens In The Drill?
A coach will start a defensive back at a back paddle, which is the basis for everything a defensive back does. The coach starts the defensive back at a back paddle of 5 – 10 yards, and then (the coach) will motion the athlete to comeback towards him. Therefore, the athlete is changing directions during his paddle. He moves towards the coach and then the coach gives the athlete a speed turn direction. This simulation emulates a scenario much like in a man-to-man play. This is a double move in which the athlete will have to plant, pivot, keep his weight and hips down, turn and go. This leaves the athlete’s back completely to the quarterback, like it would be in a speed turn in man-to-man. At approximately 15 to 20 yards, as the athlete is running, he has to turn around and locate the football.

The NBA’s 5 Best Point Guards this Season

The 5 Best Point Guards This Season In the Nba

Point guards are one of the most talked about positions in the NBA. They play a huge role within the team, and there is truth to the opinion that without a great point guard you cannot be a great team. The NBA has seen many great point guards over the years, however it will be interesting to see is given the award as the very best in the league this season. In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the 5 best point guards this season so far:

Rajon Rando
He is in the 5th season of his career and is one of the most talked about point guards. His performance has been outstanding throughout the season, and he is truly a massive asset for this team.

The NFL Combine Position Drills: Linebacker

Position Drills: Linebacker

In a football scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the linebacker position in the NFL combine. The favorite drill for all team representatives at the combine for the linebacker is the pass-drop and hip rotation drill.

What Happens in the Drill?
In this drill, a football scoreboards coach stands across you and starts you with a 5 yard back-paddle for (by motioning you with the football in his hands). Then he will turn his hand one-way or the other (left or right), giving you a direction to run into. As soon as he directs you, you open your hips and drive in that direction without turning your back on the coach. You must always keep your eyes on the coach no matter which way you are directed into. The coach is going to give you 3 more changes of directions (of his choosing). The quickness of your response to the coach’s abrupt changes in direction is all that the team representatives need for gauging the swiftness or stiffness of your movements. This drill exposes athletes who cannot move or are unable to move fluidly in a given space.

Review of the UEFA Champions League: Semifinal, 1st leg

UEFA Champions League

The much awaited 1st leg of the UEFA Champions League Semifinal is over. Manchester United and Barcelona won their respective matches. Manchester United defeated Schalke, with the soccer scoreboards showing 2-0 and Barcelona defeated their arch rivals in an intense match 2-0. The 2nd leg of the Semifinals will be played on the 3rd and 4th of May.

It was the third El Clasico played in the past 15 days and as expected it was full of tension, drama and controversy. Everyone has questioned Mourinho’s defensive team selection and tactics. It seemed that he never planned to attack Barcelona, and instead waited for them to make mistakes which his team could take advantage of. Mourinho decided to go with three defensive midfielders, but had he gone with a more attacking starting line up the result may well have been different, and the game more watchable! Barcelona were without Iniesta in the 1st leg, a fact which Real Madrid completely failed to take advantage of.

The 4 Most Dangerous Players in the NBA

The 4 Most Dangerous Players In The Nba

Many people think of a “dangerous” basketball player as a player who can score and keep on scoring. However, a real dangerous player is the one who can not only achieve great scoring statistics, but can also change the game with his all round ability to create chances for others, make cutting passes, block shots and lead his team through good and bad. With this in mind, in this basketball scoreboards feature I have collated who I consider to be the most dangerous players currently plying their trade in the NBA.

The Highest Paid Players in the Last 8 of the Champions League

The Highest Paid Players In The Last 8 Of The Champions League

The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious soccer tournament in the world, and it has the world’s most expensive players. The richest clubs are willing to pay more and more for the world’s top class players in the hope that they will bring the trophy home to their cabinet. In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have listed the most highly paid players who will be playing in the quarterfinals of the Champions league.

Frank Lampard (£6.6 million)
Like every other owner, Chelsea’s owner Roman Abromovich wants his team to win this year’s Champions League and for that he is willing to pay the midfielder Lampard an amount that he arguably does not deserve. Clearly his performances are not up to the mark, nor is he consistent, and the amount paid to him could surely buy a more prolific midfielder. Lampard has himself admitted that he is out of form and is not an automatic choice for his team. Regardless of my criticism, he remains one of the highest paid of them all in the world of soccer!
