Temple Stadium: a Philadelphia University icon
In 1928 the Owls of Temple University had a new home stadium in a West Oak Lane area of Philadelphia on 32 acres.Temple Stadium was the pride of the football team with the ability to house and seat over 20,000 roaring fans. When the mobile seating was added, it expanded the fan size to over 34,000. The design included a football stadium at the far end and the baseball/softball diamonds on the other end of the site. All stadiums at the time used a natural grass field, and Temple Stadium was no exception.

4 Reasons Why Barcelona are Untouchable
In this soccer scoreboards feature I will explain why Barcelona is currently the best soccer team and what has made them practically unplayable over the last 3 seasons. They are possibly the best team ever, so how do they do it?!
Anyone who loves soccer probably wishes that their team played like Barcelona (unless the team he or she supports IS Barcelona). But is it possible for other teams to play like Barcelona and repeat what they pull off on the field? With the soccer scoreboards showing 3-1 to Barcelona against Manchester United in the final of 2011, their successful run continued. But if they are so successful, then why don’t other teams just copy them?

The 4 Soccer Players that Need to Prove Themselves in the 2011-2012 Season
A bad season isn’t something that is rare for even the best players. This season there were many players with great talent who disappointed, and in this soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the worst offenders. Here are 4 players that really need to prove their worth in the next season.
Kaka
Unfortunately, Kaka got injured just when he was in the prime of his career and as a result he lost his form. His form was great when he was with AC Milan but since he has been traded to Real Madrid, something is not right with him, and he has not played up to his potential or been able to gel with the Real Madrid players. In order to become a regular member of the starting team and to match up to Ronaldo he has to be nothing less than the best!

The 5 Highest Paid Soccer Players in the 2010-2011 Season
In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have found out who the best paid players are in soccer, and asked, are they worth it?
Soccer players are now known to be some of the richest people on the planet, and this has all come about in the last ten years or so. Their teams spend outrageous sums of money on them and the expectations on them from the management and fans alike are huge. Some of the players who are earning a huge weekly wage have justified their payment, while others are earning way more than they deserve. Here are the top 5 paid soccer players in the 2020-2011 season, with a 1-5 rating for how much they deserve their high fee.

The 5 Best Strikers in World Soccer Today
Strikers are the players who get the most love from the fans, but also the ones who can quickly fall from their pedestal if they don’t keep up their scoring record. In this soccer scoreboards feature, I have selected the 5 best and most loved strikers in the world today, who are clearly not going to be knocked of their pedestal anytime soon. Do you agree with my selection?!
5. David Villa
The Spanish star has had an incredible first season with Barcelona. His Champions League goal against Manchester United really summed it up. He was also a part of Spain’s winning squad and scored in every game of the World Cup except the final. He has been an outstanding player and every Barca fan is looking forward to his second season with the best club team in soccer.

The 4 Best Midfielders in World Soccer
Midfielders are arguably the single most important members of a team and a huge responsibility rests on their shoulders to track back and defend, as well as to get forward and attack. These are the players who chalk up 10 to 12 kilometers per match, and the ones who need to have the greatest stamina, the ability to shoot, tackle, and dictate the pace of the game. They need to have great footballing intelligence, so as to create opportunities for the strikers with defense splitting passes. All in all, the midfielder role is the most technical, and the most challenging role in soccer.

The Top 5 Free Kick Specialists in the History of Soccer
In this soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the top 5 free kick specialists the soccer world has ever seen. Having a free kick specialist in the team gives it a great advantage, and most teams have at least one free kick specialist in their ranks. Here are my top five favorite free kick specialists to have ever played.
5. Ronaldinho
The Brazilian has an amazing ability to hit a free kick. The England fans know this better than anyone and to this day they can’t forget Ronaldinho’s 35 yard free kick in the 2002 World Cup as a result of which England lost and were sent home. Other than this one there are many instances when Ronaldinho won matches for Brazil with his free kicks and left the opposing goalkeeper looking foolish with the amazing spin he could get on the ball!

In soccer there are some rivalries that are considered “special,” and games played between two such teams are not just a battle for points, but more a battle of pride for the players and fans of as they go at it with an intensity that “normal” matches can rarely produce. Some rivalries are so intense that blood is shed after the match between the fans, although this less common than it was a generation ago. In this soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the most fierce soccer rivalries of them all!

The Top 5 EPL Players This Season
The English Premier League has come to an end and now is the time to take a look back at the season’s top players. The EPL this year has been very unpredictable and the results were often not as they were expected. Although Manchester United won once again, the points difference between them and the next ten teams was the smallest for many years.
This season is also notable for the performances of a few outstanding players. Here is my “soccer scoreboards” top 5 players of this season:

The UEFA Champions League 2010-2011: THE Final Review
The NBA has a massive mix of personalities and talents. In this basketball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the players with the craziest and most unstable personalities of all.. the ones who will always be remembered by the fans for their unique character and for their infamous incidents off as well as on the court. These are the players that were always in the spotlight, and who will always be talked about!
10. Gilbert Arenas
Gilbert Arenas was picked by the Wizards so that they could strengthen their team, but with Arena’s regular crazy behavior in the locker room they failed to do so. He brought guns into the locker room and was known for his sarcastic and negative remarks which contributed to the team’s failure.

The Unsung Heroes of the English Premier League of the 2010-2011 Season
At the start of the English Premier League this season, everybody expected players like Rooney, Fabregas, Drogba and the all other big names to be the big performers over the season, however nobody expected the players (in this article) to make such an impact this season. In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have looked at the top four unsung heroes of the 2010-2011season.
Maxi Rodriguez
This Argentine player has played a BIG role in Liverpool’s success this season. He has been amazing for large parts of it and a big reason for their second half (of the year) recovery. He has scored a hatrick twice this season and has scored seven goals in just the last three games. He wasn’t in form at the start and he had a very mediocre first few weeks, but now he is THE man who should be feared in the Liverpool team because he fast is on his way to becoming the STAR of the team.

Another Spanish Star Rises – David de Gea
In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have looked at the career (so far!) of one of the brightest new talents in Spanish soccer: David de Gea.
The success of Spain in the Euro Cup and the World Cup has bought the Spanish football players into the limelight, and they truly deserve it. Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol, Villa and Casillas are the top Spanish players and have all been on top form this season. Casillas played a major role in the victory of Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey title. Spain has produced many great players and the rise this season of another Spanish star David de Gea comes as no surprise.

Review of the UEFA Champions League: Semifinal, 1st leg
The much awaited 1st leg of the UEFA Champions League Semifinal is over. Manchester United and Barcelona won their respective matches. Manchester United defeated Schalke, with the soccer scoreboards showing 2-0 and Barcelona defeated their arch rivals in an intense match 2-0. The 2nd leg of the Semifinals will be played on the 3rd and 4th of May.
It was the third El Clasico played in the past 15 days and as expected it was full of tension, drama and controversy. Everyone has questioned Mourinho’s defensive team selection and tactics. It seemed that he never planned to attack Barcelona, and instead waited for them to make mistakes which his team could take advantage of. Mourinho decided to go with three defensive midfielders, but had he gone with a more attacking starting line up the result may well have been different, and the game more watchable! Barcelona were without Iniesta in the 1st leg, a fact which Real Madrid completely failed to take advantage of.

The Highest Paid Players in the Last 8 of the Champions League
The UEFA Champions League is the most prestigious soccer tournament in the world, and it has the world’s most expensive players. The richest clubs are willing to pay more and more for the world’s top class players in the hope that they will bring the trophy home to their cabinet. In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have listed the most highly paid players who will be playing in the quarterfinals of the Champions league.
Frank Lampard (£6.6 million)
Like every other owner, Chelsea’s owner Roman Abromovich wants his team to win this year’s Champions League and for that he is willing to pay the midfielder Lampard an amount that he arguably does not deserve. Clearly his performances are not up to the mark, nor is he consistent, and the amount paid to him could surely buy a more prolific midfielder. Lampard has himself admitted that he is out of form and is not an automatic choice for his team. Regardless of my criticism, he remains one of the highest paid of them all in the world of soccer!

18 days and 4 El Clasicos!

The Top 5 Defenders in the World

The Worst Refereeing Decisions in Soccer History
It’s high time that the FIFA agrees to the installation of video technology. The number of controversial decisions is increasing match by match and these wrong decisions can be match changing. We know that ‘to err is human,’ however these errors could be prevented by using the video technology. Anyway, until that time comes there will be plenty of fodder for articles like these! In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the most controversial and worst refereeing decisions made in the history of soccer.

The 4 Craziest Acts in the History of Soccer
Professional footballers can get themselves in the headlines for their off the field acts just as well as for their on field acts. At times these off field acts can be crazy and outrageous, and they show the fans that footballers can be an entirely different breed. In a soccer scoerboards feature, I have taken a look at some of the footballers’ craziest acts from recent years:
Ashley Cole
Chelsea’s defender managed to get himself in the news for shooting, and not with a camera! Now you must be wondering ‘How is that possible?’ Well, Ashley Cole was said to be larking around with a .22 caliber air rifle, and he shot a Loughborough University student, Tom Cowan. This is not the first time that Cole has got himself into serious trouble. He drew negative attention to himself when he was caught cheating on his celebrity wife and when he almost crashed his car after being extremely frustrated when he was offered a measly £50,000.

Contenders for the PFA Player of the Year this Season
We are just a few weeks away from the finalizing of this season’s Barclays Premier League and there as yet hasn’t been much debate on who will win the PFA player of the year. The Top 5 Players Who Must Perform in the Last Two Months of the 2011 Season.
With the season coming to an end, the best players in the world are lined up to shine in the world’s biggest club competition, the Champions league, and in their respective national leagues. In this article, I have reviewed some of the top players whom we expect to light up the soccer scoreboards across Europe in the next few weeks.
Samir Nasri
Apart from the fact that Nasri has been hit by injuries this year, he has performed like never before for Arsenal. He is a key player for the club and has 14 goals to his name. According to Zidane, Nasri is the bright future of French football, and this season he is showing us why Zidane said that. But can he reach the amazing heights of the great Zidane? Arsenal NEED to win the Premiership this season, and for that they need Nasri on top form!

The Top 5 Midfielders Left in the UEFA Champions League
We are now in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League, where each tie consists of two legs with one home game for each team. As we are in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the best midfielders left in the league:
5. Theo Walcott and Andrei Arshavin
There are players who are not that great midfielders on their own, but when they pair up with another midfielder they make a deadly combination. This is the case for Arsenal’s Walcott and Arshavin. Walcott started off the season incredibly well and is arguably having his best season ever with 7 goals already to his name in the league. The soccer scoreboards show that Arshavin joined the gunners in January 2009 and since then has been one of the key players for the team. His impact is evident from the fact that the gunners have not lost a single match out of the 13 matches Arshavin has played in (as of February).

The Last Eight in the Champions League 2011

Barcelona maul Arsenal in the 2nd leg of the Champions League.
The much awaited match was played on 8th March 2011 at the Camp Nou. With the soccer scoreboards showing 2-1 to Arsenal after the first leg, it was anybody’s game!
Both the teams, Arsenal and Barcelona, played a fantastic match but in the end it was Barcelona who emerged victorious and advanced to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. It is the fourth consecutive year that Barcelona has succeeded in reaching the last 8 in the Champions League, but for Arsenal it is another season of dashed hopes as the soccer scoreboards show that they are now out of the Champion’s league.

The Best Striking Partnerhips in the English Premier League
Strikers have arguably the single most important position in the team. Great strikers possess footballing intelligence, a deft first touch, an accurate shot and blistering speed. In this soccer scoreboards article I have listed the best striking partnerships in the league at the moment:
5. Gabriel Agbonlahor & Darren Bent
Agbonlahor and Bent play for Aston Villa. Bent has been in tremendous form this season and is performing at a very high level. Agbonlahor is not playing that well but with Bent beside him this pair has brought hope to Aston Villa’s fans this season, that perhaps they can achieve something yet. Bent has been in form and with the help of Young’s assists he is scoring well for the team. With Bent beside him, Agbonlahor shouldn’t be off form for too much longer. These are the two key players in the teams attacking line up, and Villa has a lot to look forward if they can gel and reach their potential.

The Great Gary Neville – A Glimpse at His Hugley Successful Career
Soccer scoreboards can reveal that Gary Neville revealed that he is retiring on 2nd February 2011. He was the captain of Manchester United for five years, and was dearly loved by the Man U fans throughout his extensive career with the team. He made his debut for the club in 1992 in the European cup against Tarpedo Moscow in Russia. At that time Manchester United had players like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Paul Scholes coming through the ranks. He quickly developed a great partnership with Beckham on the right wing.

Arsenal’s Lucky Charm – Cesc Fabregas
In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have looked at Cesc Fabrega’s huge influence on Arsenal. The team is starving for trophies, but with this man at the helm the time is surely coming when the fans will have to suffer no more!
Arsenal is an English club nicknamed as The Gunners. It has a team with a great history, that is dearly loved and supported by its fans. Arsenal does not have scores of expensive stars such as Chelsea or Manchester City, but it has had some of the most admired players in the world on its books over the years, such as Ian Wright, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vierira.

The Top 3 Goals Ever Scored In a World Cup
Ever wondered why soccer is such an exciting and popular global sport? It’s almost like football; only without the padding and that it’s played with the feet instead of the hands. Other than that, they are almost the same; the physical contacts (Zidane’s head bud!) and going behind enemy lines to score! However, as football is more about brute force, soccer is more about skill and touch. Scoring a goal is very difficult, but when it happens it is one of the best moments in any sport. Here is a soccer scoreboards list of the top 3 goals ever to be scored in the World Cup and the players who scored them.

Barcelona and the Players that are Bringing it Glory
Nothing has gone wrong for Barcelona this season. So far they have got everything right – from the number of victories to the amazing performances to the success of the newly signed players. The soccer scoreboards showed that David Villa signed with Barcelona in May 2010 for a fee of €40 million. The team was further strengthened by signing probably the best striker in the world, and this is on top of the fact that it already has players on its books such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi etc! Barcelona had the most successful season ever in 2008-2009. It was in fact the most successful in any club’s history and nobody could have at that time said that the same team could possibly perform better than they did in the 2008-2009 season. This season, however is just as special.

How to Develop Better Goalkeeping Skills
In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have looked briefly at the key skills of the all important goalkeeping position.
The goalkeeper is a key player who holds a very important position in the team. Unfortunately coaches do not always pay much attention to enhancng goal keeping skills, and this is because the coaches often lack goalkeeping experience themselves, so they are of-course unable to train their goalkeepers in the same way that they train their outfield players. Here are some soccer scoreboards tips for budding goalkeepers:

The Best 4 Forwards of the Last Few Years
In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have picked out the best 4 forwards that I have seen play in the last few years. Two of them are in their prime now, whilst the other two are at the end of their great careers.
Goals are the most interesting part of the game of soccer, and the people who score goals are admired dearly by their fans. Forwards have the big responsibility for scoring at least 20 goals for their team per season. We have seen some great forwards in the history of the game; now let’s take a look at some of the best to have plyed their trade in recent times, or who are still playing today.

The Priciest Soccer Transfers in 2010
In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have reviewed the 3 biggest transfers of the year, and asked the big question, “was it worth it?!”
The saying “money can buy everything” seems to be true in today’s sporting world. Qualities like honesty and loyalty are also bought. This is true in the case of every sport and soccer is no exception. Players are more loyal and honest to clubs that pay them a handsome amount, whilst the concept of loyalty to the fans or the name of a club is dying out. Even in the top clubs in the world no players are untouchable, as the “new rich,” such as Manchester City, can stroll in and buy practically who they like for vastly inflated prices. 2010 has ended so let’s take a look at the biggest trades of the year.

The Best Black Soccer Players of this Generation
In a soccer scoreboards feature, I haven taken look at the best black soccer players of the last decade.
In the last ten years there has been an explosion in the number of black players playing in the top European leagues, particularly in the French and English leagues. The reasons for this are complex, but they are largely social-cultural. To start with, increased opportunities due to anti-racism programs and the globalizing of the game (ten years ago, the majority of players in the English league, for instance, were British, but now the majority of them are foreign born). Secondly, sport is a huge part of black culture, and an avenue in which many young black kids go down. This is quite different in the Asian world, for instance, where playing sports to reach a professional level is much less important and not so encouraged.

The Quickest Soccer Players in the World Today
Soccer is a game in which physical attributes are not as important as in many other team sports, such as American football, rugby and hockey. The best players ever were neither big nor fast (take Pele and Maradonna as two good examples). The best player in the world today, Messi, is just 5 foot 7 tall and although he has exceptional acceleration, his top speed is average (although he can dribble the ball at speed better than anyone).

The Best Asian Soccer Players In the World Today
In a soccer scoreboards feature, we look at the role of Asian players in World soccer, and list the three most successful players in the game at the moment.
There are very few Asian players plying their trade in the top leagues of Europe. The question is, why is this so? Why are there so many African players, for instance, but so few Asian players?

Russia and Qatar – The World Cup hosts have been announced to great surprise!
The soccer scoreboards show that the hosts of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups have been announced. Russia will host the 2018 World Cup, whereas the competition in 2022 will be hosted by Qatar. This decision, which was announced on 2 December 2010, took many soccer fans by surprise. Russia won the bid over the favourite England and Qatar won the bid over the favourite the U.S. England was given the best chance of winning the hosting rights but in the end it was Russia who emerged as the winner. England was promised that it would receive seven votes, but instead it got only two and got knocked out in the initial round.

Tevez’s Transfer Request is Causing Great Trouble for Manchester City
In a soccer scoreboards news article, we ask the question – why does Teves suddenly want to leave Manchester City?
Carlos Tevez is an Argentine player who plays for the English club Manchester City. He is currently the captain of the team. He signed a three year contract with Manchester City but right in the middle of the season he has requested a transfer. In one way perhaps we cannot blame Tevez, as Manchester City has lost a lot of its star players since the Abu Dhabi group took over.

Who will win this year’s FIFA Ballon D’or?
The FIFA Ballon D’or is a European award and was previously given to European footballers only, however, in 1995 the rules changed and non-European players were also declared eligible for this award. In 2007, the soccer scoreboards showed that the rules changed again and now any player of any nationality and playing for any club is eligible for this award. This has also led to an increase in the number of journalists who vote and choose their top five players. This award is given to the player who was the best in the previous calendar year and who has delivered consistently outstanding performances.

David Beckham – More than just an athlete
David Beckham is an iconic British athlete. He is more than just a soccer player and has always been in the news, be it his wedding with the former Spice girl Victoria Adams, his hairstyle, his tattoo or rumours that he has been cheating on his wife.
David Beckham was born on May 2, 1975 and has been a soccer lover since his childhood. He started playing football at the age of 5 and went to a soccer school for training. His passion and love for the game made him work particularly hard, and in no time he had earned a chance to participate in an FC Barcelona training session. He then played for a local youth team before being signed by Manchester United as a young teenager. His performances were so outstanding that he received an award for the under-15 player of the year. The soccer scoreboards showed that he made his professional debut at the age of 17 with Manchester United, and helped United win the Champions league in 1999, as well as many other titles.

The Most Overrated Soccer Players in the World
The fans just love this game of soccer, and in their fervor sometimes they blindly overrate some of the players. These players do not have something extra ordinary in their game but the fans simply love them. Sometimes they turn into such big players because they have a spouse who is a celebrity or because they have performed well only in a couple of high profile matches. Once fans start treating them like big players, companies run after such players and sign them as ambassadors, and then they get important roles in advertisements. This is why players become overrated. According to the fans, here are the most overrated players.

Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo – Who is the greatest?
In a soccer scoreboards review, we look at and compare the best two attacking players in the global game today. Soccer is the most popular sport in Europe. Practically everyone on the continent is crazy about the game and the stadiums tend to be full every time there is a match.
