The last season played by the Mustangs was a good one, and the team was willing to go all the way. In the first game against Poplarville, the Mustangs stopped the other team cold with a final scoreboard showing of twenty five to zero. The win against Magee High School was not a shutout, with a score of twenty one to twelve, but the West Jones High School still saw victory. The Mustangs also won against Collins, Laurel High School, and Northeast Lauderdale before having their first loss of the season. Victory was not taken in the game against Northeast Jones, with the Mustangs losing sixteen to thirty five. They also lost the next game, which was against Quitman, with the scoreboards showing ten to twenty four. After this second loss the team gained speed again, winning against South Jones and then East Central, which was also a complete shutout that left the Mustangs winning at twenty eight to zero. Next came another loss for the West Jones High School football team, with Wayne County winning and the scoreboard reflecting a score of seven to twenty four. After this game the playoff games started, and the school did very well. In the first playoff game West Jones High School faced Gautier and won, twenty to thirteen. Next they played Brookhaven, and also brought home victory and glory with a seventeen to seven win. The third playoff game pitted the Mustangs against Wayne County, and they were successful at this one as well. It was not until the game against D'Iberville that the Mustangs lost their momentum and were defeated, with a scoreboard showing of six to twenty four. This team has motivation and talent, and this is one reason why sports fans will travel from all over to watch this high school football team play ball.
