The 3 Best NBA Dunkers Ever

The 3 Best Nba Dunkers Ever

In a feature, I have taken at look at the most exciting players in the game: the players who are known for their incredible power dunking skills.

A dunker is a player who is able to jump high in the air and manually power the ball into the basket. It is a shot worth two points if successful. The NBA has seen many dunkers but in this article we will look at the top 3 to have ever played.

3. Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan was undoubtedly a great player. He made the game of basketball what it is today. He had immense capabilities as a dunker and due to this ability he was nicknamed ‘Air’. This nickname of his speaks a lot about his dunking capabilities. He would go towards the basket as if he was about to destroy it. He could jump over players as tall as 7 feet, and he made his dunks look like a form of art. His dunk over the 7 feet Patrick Ewing in the 1991 NBA Play offs is unarguably his best and most unforgettable.

2. Vince Carter
Vince Carter is one of the best dunkers ever. He does not top this list for a couple of reasons; firstly due to the injuries he had, and secondly his lack of important dunks. Wilkins and Jordan dunked when it was needed which is why many people think they are better than Carter. Still it cannot be denied what an amazing and thriller dunker Carter was. He impressed everyone with his outstanding dunking skills in the Slam Dunk Contest in 2000. His dunks were creative and amazingly innovative. He learnt these skills from some former great players and then created his own dunking style with a mix of what everyone taught him. His best dunk was in the 2000 Sydney Olympics when he jumped over a 7’2 French player to score. No doubt he is nicknamed Half- man, Half-amazing!

1. Dominique Wilkins
Dominique Wilkins’ dunks looked like a punch from Mike Tyson. He had great dunking capabilities. He was able to handle multiple opponents while he was on the go. He even scored a dunk where he was successful in beating five Miami Heat players at one time. His height was an added advantage and helped him to score dunks in every match. There wasn’t a single match in his whole career in which he didn’t make a dunk, and in the 5 slam dunk contests that he took part in, he won 2 of them. Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins were the two prominent dunkers at that time. The basketball scoreboards showed that these two players met 3 times in the slam dunk contest where Wilkins leads head to head 2-1. His greatest dunk was over Larry Bird. His dunking capabilities earned him the nickname ‘The Human Highlight Reel.’
