GHSA, which stands for Georgia High School Association, is an organization which promotes education in the state of Georgia. The GHSA has over four hundred high schools, both public and private schools which belong to the association, and the goal is to provide regulations for high school activities which promote good sportsmanship and athletic participation, as well as fine art appreciation, with the use of competitions at the regional and state levels. Fairness in competition is the main goal of this organization. The schools who belong have joined voluntarily, and a spirit of cooperation between member schools is expected. High standards are set by the GHSA so that every pupil who competes at any member school has the same advantages. The start of the organization was in the year 1904, at the University of Georgia, when a doctor by the name of Joseph S Stewart started to work with schools within Georgia. Through the last century the original program has been changed by secondary administrators to improve the goals, and the regulations set out. The member schools are classified by size, so that competitions are more fairly matched. Smaller high schools compete against other small schools, while large schools compete with other large schools.
The GHSA is responsible for setting all of the standards that are used for all training, evaluation, and registration of any officials in any and all competitive activities that are held at or on behalf of the association or member schools. The association has rule books printed up which are given to all officials, and there are rules clinics held for officials and coaches. These clinics are held by instructors who have been trained by the GHSA, so that they are aware of all the requirements and regulations in place. These instructors and evaluators will travel around the state to assess the officials, and ensure that they are properly trained and aware of all the rules and regulations which are in place by GHSA. The strict standards and regulations put in place by the association is for the safety and health of the participating athletes and students, and to ensure that any competitions are fair and evenly matched. The GHSA guidelines also outline the standards that must be met by the high school student to be eligible to participate, and the standards that the member school must meet as well.
Over the last century the GHSA has done tremendous work making sports and other high school activities safer, more evenly matched, and more regulated, for the improvement of these activities. This ensures an even playing field between players, so that one team or player does not have an unfair advantage over the other. Rules and regulations are set and clearly defined, and this includes what is expected of the participants, the member schools, and the officials. Clear guidelines spell out what is expected, so that fair competition is assured.
Electro-Mech, scoreboards manufacturer, is proud to be the official scoreboard company of the GHSA. Together the two organizations have been helping high school students enjoy sports and competitions for more than one hundred and forty years combined. The high schools which have benefited from new electronic LED scoreboards understand completely why Electro-Mech is the official scoreboard company for the association, because of the quality products at extremely low prices.
