Though there are many programs throughout the country where kids can learn and get better for free or a nominal charge, this is a list of the top basketball camps in the nation:

Nike Sports Camps.

These camps, scattered throughout the country, cater to all skills levels and works with boys between the ages of 8-18. They allow and invite players of all abilities to their camps and teach the fundamentals of the game, frequently at a local high school. Shooting drills, a lot of running and team fundamentals are reviewed.

Sixers Basketball Camp.

This is a popular camp that began in the mid 1980s and got popular in a hurry. All four of the camps are located around Philadelphia and run in two-week sections. Campers spend the night, learn skills and, the highlight for the campers, rub elbows with professional basketball players.

HOA Sports and Basketball Camp.

This is one of the basketball camps that has requirements to enroll. It is only for high school basketball players who are among the best on their team. They only take 100 for their week-long elite program where players learn advanced techniques.

Dwayne Wade Basketball Camp.

One of the few free basketball camps, Wade has hosted this 2-day camp for 5 years in Blue Island, Illinois. Campers get full instruction and play games and the highlight is a lecture on basketball fundamentals with the very personable Wade. Campers learn and compete at the local high school for each day of the camp.

Coach K’s Duke Basketball Camp.

Each year Coach K hosts a very hard to get into basketball camp on Duke’s campus. The highly successful coach opens up his gym and dorms to three different weeks worth of campers. The players learn fundamentals and play ball at one of the best basketball camps. All of this under the watchful eye of Coach K and his staff. Adults can go to a fantasy camp later in the summer and compete if you are over 35 and a massive Duke fan. The cost for that program is $10,000.

Michael Jordan’s Flight School.

This aptly named school is among the top basketball camps because of its namesake. Jordan offers two different weeks for youth to come and learn from and meet Michael Jordan–something that the other professional basketball camps cannot offer. For years, Jordan has hosted the camp on the campus of UC Santa Barbara and campers stay at a nearby dorm just a walk from the ocean. No guarantees that campers will be able to dunk but they will have a good time.

Among the many positive sides of the basketball camps for the kids is the fact that these places are equipped up-to-date and boast high-quality equipment like scoreboards which adds to the motivation of the kids.
