In a feature, we look forward to the MVP awards and discuess the burning question: who’s going to win it?!

The MVP award is a highly prestigious one in basketball. Players who have played for at least 50 regular season games and have put in consistently outstanding performances (stress on consistenly) are eligible for the MVP.. A panel of sportswriters and broadcasters decide who should be honored with this prestigious award. This year’s online voting has been initiated through which the fans can vote for the player they think should win the award. Let’s look at this season’s MVP award favorites.

Number 5: Pau Gasol
Pau Gasol plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was acquired by the Lakers when their team was struggling and was in need of a great player. He has emerged as a key player for his team and now is arguably more important than Kobe Bryant for the Lakers. The basketball scoreboards show that this season he is averaging 22.7 points, 12.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4.5 blocks per game. Gasol has won some matches for the Lakers single handedly.

Number 4: Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant plays for the Oklahoma City Thunders. He plays as a shooting guard in the team and is the youngest scoring champion in the history of the NBA. This year he is facing some troubles with scoring as he is running behind his career best averages but he has cracked the 30 point mark six times and that in just 11 games. MVP voters vote him on the basis of his points and he is a strong contender for the prestigious award.

Number 3: Rajon Rondo
Rajon Rondo plays for the Boston Celtics. As their point guard he has put in great performance after great performance. He has been great on the court and has helped his team to a large number of victories. He has more assists than scores, but that is OK for a point guard, and looking at his assists’ average which is 15.1 per game, one can say that he surely is worthy of winning MVP.

Number 2: Dwight Howard
Dwight Howard plays for Orlando Magic, as a forward. This season he has a career low shooting average of 53.5 percent but he has a career high 21.2 per game in just 32.7 minutes. He has been playing incredibly well this season and is regarded as one of the most complete players in the NBA. He has a unusual and game which is difficult to defend against, and coaches of the opposite team have to plan a complete different strategy to tackle him during the match.

Number 1: Chris Paul
Chris Paul plays for New Orleans Hornets, as a point guard. His team has been unbeaten this season and the credit for this goes largely to Paul. He is playing extremely well and it would come as no surprise if he wins the MVP.
