Best Basketball Shots Ever

Working at a company that produces electronic basketball scoreboards, Electro-Mech employees are fans (some fanatics) of a variety of team sports, with basketball being just one example. We make sure follow all the latest (and hottest) basketball news, trends, scandals and, of course, the games, especially the best the sports world has ever seen, such as this article details. Read on to check them out.

There’s only seconds left in the game and your team is down by a point with one final shot. You’re on the edge of your seat, nervously wondering if you’re going to witness one of the , or suffer a gut-wrenching loss. In all my years of watching college and professional basketball, I’ve seen some pretty amazing shots. From game winning jump shots to driving layups that leave you wondering, “How in the world did that go in to the basket?” I’ve seen it all.

Over the years there have been some great game winning, full-court shots during the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. There was Tate George’s turn-around jumper from the corner against Clemson in the 1990 tournament. Then, two years later, in what was one of the greatest college games ever, Christian Laetner hit a spinning, fade-away jumper with a defender’s hand in his face. And he did all this after catching a full-court pass from Brian Davis. That amazing shot beat a very good Kentucky team in the 1992 tournament.

There have also been some creative plays drawn up by coaches to create the ultimate game-winning shot. In 1998, Valparaiso coach Homer Drew devised a play that would create room for his son Bryce Drew to score the game winning three-pointer just before time expired to beat Ole Miss. The player caught the full-court pass at the top of the key and in mid-air tipped it over to Bryce Drew who was running right past him. Bryce caught the pass and put up the three-pointer in midstride just as the clock ran out.

Julius Erving and Michael Jordan were two of the greatest players when it came to making some of the best basketball shots ever recorded. The clip of the Dr. J “rocking the baby” dunk over Michael Cooper is a classic NBA moment. So too was his incredible reverse layup from behind the backboard where he seemed to float in mid-air.

Michael Jordan played during the golden years of the NBA in the 1990s and was quite possibly the greatest player at making the most incredible shots. Of course there are his famous thunderous dunks straight over his opponents that most fans have seen, but his hanging jump shot over Craig Ehlo to beat Cleveland and got Chicago into the playoffs will go down in history as a great clutch shot. His incredible change, mid-air, from soaring dunk shot to underhanded layup, all while avoiding a Utah Jazz defender, remains one of the most breathtaking moves ever recorded on film.

The last few decades have been great for basketball as there have been countless clutch shots, big games and spectacular dunks to please even the most complacent fan. The future will only produce even more great shots to talk about as players like Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard and Lebron James continue to improve. So the next time you turn on a game, grab a drink and sit a while. You never know when you might catch one of the best basketball shots ever made.
