4 Of The Overrated Nba Players Through The Ages

In a feature, I have looked back at some of the most famous, yet most overrated players to have plyed their trade in the NBA.

Being overrated does not necassarily mean that the player does not play well. It simply means that the player is given more credit than he actually deserves and is given too much media attention. There is a lot of hype (and money!) surrounding a lot of players, and some of them quite simply do not give back what they get. Here is a list of NBA’s most overrated players who have played in the past.

Charles Barkley
The basketball scoreboards showed that Charles Barkley played for the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns and Philadelphia 76ers. There is no doubt that he was one of the most dominant and aggressive rebounders, however he never used this ability to bring his team to a championship. Although he reached 13 playoffs, he never had the leadership skills to get his players to rally around him, and he did not win a championship with any of the three teams he had played. Many people think that considering what his teams achieved (i.e: didn’t achieve), he has being given too much credit over the years. He was in the news quite often because of the controversies that surrounded him. Who can forget the spitting event?

Kevin McHale
Kevin McHale played for the Boston Celtics all his career, where he played as a center. The Celtics Aura created his name and he got recognition just because he was a part of the Championship winning team. He was fortunate to have Larry Bird as a team mate and was a great friend of his. He won the NBA All Star seven times and was the NBA champion thrice but despite receiving these awards, and this is of-course subject to argument, many people consider him to ba very overrated, and just fortunate to have played in such a good team.

Bill Laimbeer
Bill Laimbeer earned fame when he played for Detroit Pistons as a center. He was known as a dirty player as he defended very physically. He was usually found protecting the star players. Apart from his physical toughness he was a great rebounder, for which he was praised consistently. Some people regard him as a legend, but this is certainly taking it too far, and comparing him to players like Jordan and Bird is senseless. It was mainly due to the era he played in that he got so much of attention. A very player, but far from a great player..and so very overated.

Robert Horry
Robert Horry played as a forward center for several teams like Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. He was regarded as one of the greatest players in his time which is the reason he is on this list. He made some huge shots in his career – of that there is no doubt, but that does not make a player great. His shot percentage is not that impressive, and his performances were not consitent enough for him to get the credit that he has. Like Laimbeer, a good player but not the GREAT player that he is remembered as.
