Here, at Electro-Mech, we not only produce electronic basketball scoreboards but we’re big fans of all sports- basketball included. An employee favorite is the All Star Game. Here’s our review of 2008’s game.

The last year was certainly an exciting one for fans of basketball across the country. In particular, the 2008 basketball all star game held on February 17, 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana was one of the more entertaining games over the last few years. But the NBA isn’t the only league to conduct all star games in 2008. The McDonald’s All-American Game is an all star game of sorts for the top high school basketball players in the nation.

The NBA all star game is much more than just a 2008 basketball all star game. The all star game has turned into a weekend long event with several skills competitions and exhibition games wrapped up with the actual all star game. In addition to the slam dunk contest and three point shootout that most fans are familiar with, there are now team shooting competitions and an overall skills challenge for individuals as well. In 2008 Dwight Howard won the slam dunk contest over the competition with an incredible Superman inspired dunk. The three point shooting contest was won by Jason Kapono of the Toronto Raptors who hit 51% of the shots he took to take home the trophy. The individual skills competition was one by Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz while the San Antonio Spurs took home the win for best team shooting.

The McDonald’s High School All-American game is another example of a 2008 basketball all star game. This game features the top high school players in the country who square off against each other in an exhibition game at the end of the season. The players are divided into East and West depending on the region they’re from. Most of these players go on to successful college careers and some even make it to the NBA. There have been rare cases where a player’s talent is so great they make the jump from High School to the NBA. Lebron James, Dwight Howard, and Kevin Garnett are three players that accomplished this amazing feat. The 2008 game was extremely competitive with the East beating the West 107 – 102. Just like the NBA all star game, the McDonald’s game features a slam dunk contest as well as a three point shooting contest. In terms of competition, this was one of the best 2008 men’s basketball games played, despite the fact that none of the players were professional athletes.

Basketball has become such a popular sport that there were just too many 2008 basketball all star games to mention in one article. Most local High School leagues as well as recreational leagues have some sort of all star game to honor the top performers from the 2008 season. For players that play hard every game, the reward could be a trip to one of the top all star games in the nation.
