For every baseball fan there is just one thing that can complete with the game itself in terms of excitment, and that is the player trades. Rumour and speculation is rife when it comes to trading, and all the time we are hoping that our team gets the guy, and even more important, that our biggest rivals don’t get him! Here are some of the best free agents at every position:

Catcher
Mike Napoli is the top free agent catcher. The show that he plays for the Los Angeles Angles. He has been connected with many teams. He is still very young and is a bright prospect that a number of teams will be hoping to get hold of.

First Base
Prince Fielder is the top first base free agent. The baseball scoreboards show that he currently plays for the Milwaukee Brewers. He is the son of Cecil Fielder, and they are the only son and father combination in the history of MLB to have reached the 50 home run mark in one season.

Second Base
Brian Roberts is the best second baseman free agent. He has been with the Baltimore Orioles for his entire career. His nickname is B-Rob. It will difficult for teams to trade him to their team as he has always played with Orioles, but you never know what might happen. Unfortunately, he was injured for most of the 2010 season.

Shortstop
Jose Reyes is the best shortstop free agent. He plays for the New York Mets. He is entering the final year of his contract so will become available soon. A lot of teams will be after this star player.

Third Base
There is no outstanding player in this category. However, if we have to rank them, Adrian Beltre is probably the best third baseman free agent. He played for the Boston Red Sox in the 2010 season. Beltre had an amazing season this year but some people consider him to be inconsitent. Despite this, it is only a matter of time before a team steps forward and offers this great player a contract.

Left Field
Carl Crawford is undoubtedly the best free agent in this category. He is being traded by the Boston Red Sox.

Center Field
Grady Sizemore has been a rock at this position for some time now, but he is injury prone and this is a big turn off for potential buyers.

Right Field
Jose Bautista is the best of the current crop of right fielders. This year he had a great season but he would not cost to much to buy. This means that pretty much any team has the resources to buy him.

Starting Pitcher
Without any shadow of doubt, Cliff Lee is the best pitcher in the game. He is due to trade to the Yankees or Rangers, but no one knows as yet to which.

Setup Man
Grant Balfour is a free agent who had a great recent year with the Tampa Bay Rays. He leads the middle relied pitching class.

Closer
Heath Bell is one of the best of the closers and is entering the last year of his contract, and it seems like he will soon be traded by the San Diego Padres.
