Half Way Through the MLB Season - Who Will Win the MVP Award

The Major League Baseball season is almost half way through, and the race for the MVP award has already started. It is not a given that the MVP award winner has to be from a successful team, because it is purely an individual award which recognizes a player’s outstanding and performance throughout the season. In this feature, I have selected the players who have stood out so far, no matter who they play for. These are the ones whom, in my view, have the best chance of winning the MVP award this year!

5. Mark Teixeira
Mark Teixeira was regarded as one of the slowest starters in the game, however things have changed. He is having an incredible season, is leading in home runs and the baseball scoreboards show that he is on his way to scoring 50 home runs for the first time ever in his career. Teixeira has a history of producing exhilarating performances in the second half of the season, and if this happens this season then he will surely be a strong contender for the MVP.

4. Jose Bautista
He has emerged as one of the most feared hitters in the league and is definitely a contender for the MVP this season. He is a part of a very mediocre team which has almost has no chance of getting to the playoffs which is a shame, as he will miss out on the opportunity to showcase his skills in the latter part of the season. Despite this, his individual performances might bring him the award this year, and if so he will have completely deserved it!

3. Curtis Granderson
Granderson has certainly made up for his dreadful season last year. The Yankee, after struggling hard, has now lifted his performances to such an extent that he is nothing short of receiving an MVP. He is leading the league in runs as well as in triples and will soon be in the list of top 10 home run scorers. His performances can not only earn him a MVP but can also secure a place for his team in the playoffs.

2. Miguel Cabrera
Miguel Cabrera is having a fantastic season. He is among the top 10 in 10 offensive categories! He is playing way above his previous average scores this season and in mind has a great chance of picking up the MVP this year. The Detroit Tigers are looking to book a place in the playoffs and if they succeed it will be to a large part because of Cabrera.

1. Adrian Gonzalez
The first baseman of the Boston Red Sox is surely the man to beat this season. He is leading the league in runs batted, hits, doubles and batting average. His team is expected to make the playoffs which will give him a chance to show everybody why he is probably the strongest contender of all to receive the MVP this year.
